Susan Marlowe CPA talks about allergies

Hello from Susan Marlowe CPA! It may come as a surprise for you to hear that dogs can have allergies too. We humans may be snuffling away but some of our furry friends can be just as miserable in the Spring and Summer, when many allergens are floating around. Thanks from Susan Marlowe CPA!

Also, please do not overlook food allergies in dogs. Allergies to corn or peanuts can be dangerous for humans. The same is true for dogs! If your dogs shows signs of indigestion, the food may be to blame. Speaking as a CPA, Susan Marlowe recommends reading your labels carefully. You can save a life.

Susan K Marlowe thanks you for visiting this blog.

Clicker training

Hi there from Susan Marlowe CPA of Dallas!
I make no secret of the fact that I am a huge fan of clicker training. It is a positive, fun and enjoyable way to train your dog. Old methods of dog training involving choke chains and other unpleasant sensations made training a chore for you and could sometimes terrorize the poor dog. With clicker training, the dog actually looks forward to the training sessions. It's wonderful.

I hesitated to start clicker training at first because I thought it was gimmicky. Actually, though, it is based on solid logic and an understanding of the canine mind. The clicker creates a unique sound that is only used when you want the dog to know "that's what I wanted" and the following treat ensures that the pooch remembers that the clicker is a great thing.

My chihuahua is quite the little performer and he always looks forward to clicker time. You can ween the dog off treats after a while, giving a treat every 3 or 4 clicks. Best of all, it increases your dog's obedience overall. The dog knows that if you call him, you mean to treat them. What could be better?

Designer Dogs

Hello from Susan Marlowe CPA. I am going to blog about the "designer dog" today. What is a designer dog? Well, lately it has become a fad for people to cross two or more different breeds of dogs together to create a new breed. Dogs that were once labeled mutts are now selling for hundreds of dollars. The upside is that it shows people are more accepting of mixed breed dogs. The downside is that some backyard breeders and puppy mill operators have found a new source of income and that more dogs are being bred than ever.

Before you are seduced into buying a labradoodle or a boxita or a cavalon, please check out your local shelter or rescue. There are numerous chihuahua, poodle and labrador mixes just waiting for you to adopt them. They may not have the trendy names but they are wonderful, sweet dogs. I hope that you will take my advice and embrace the joy of owning a mutt.

Here are some advantages of owning just a good old-fashioned mutt:

  • They are often healthier
  • They are cheap, sometimes free
  • They often live longer
  • They make great conversation pieces! (Yes, my dog is half Collie, half Airedale, half Pekinese, half St. Bernard with just a pinch of Spitz.)
  • They are populist. What could be more American than a dog with twelve different breeds from three different continents. It's downright patriotic to own a mutt!
